Roles and Responsibilities of Mentors

      Assist mentee in identifying professional and personal growth goals and objectives.

      Commit to meeting with Mentee on a regular basis taking the responsibility of scheduling meetings with your Mentee. Be responsive and respectful of Mentee’s role and time.

      Create and share agendas for meetings with mentees.

      Encourage the Mentee to join committees and professional organizations helpful for career development and goal attainment.

      Maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

      Be sensitive to differences in race, gender, and cultural background.

      Celebrates milestones and achievements with Mentee.

      Facilitate learning opportunities.

Roles and Responsibilities of Mentees

      Identify goals and continually update/restructure as needed and track your progress. Identify the skills, knowledge and/or goals that he/she wants to achieve and communicate them clearly to the mentor.

      Schedule and keep planned meetings and be prepared. Be responsive and respectful of the mentor’s role and time.

      Be able to accept constructive, professional criticism/suggestions/advice. Be comfortable receiving objective feedback.

      Maintain awareness of the length of the Mentee/Mentor relationship, renew or conclude relationship.

      Maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

      Be sensitive to differences in race, gender, and cultural background.

      Openly share successes and failures.
